Barclays "B in Tech"

Barclays "B in Tech"

This month, Barclays hosted their "B in Tech" event at their Glasgow campus, welcoming around 90 pupils from East Renfrewshire schools.
The aim was to inspire students to consider Computer Science as a National 4 or 5 subject and explore future careers in technology.

Students enjoyed a series of engaging activities, including myth-busting quizzes to challenge common misconceptions about tech careers, a hands-on Microcoding session to demonstrate the accessibility of coding at home, and a Sphero Mini Golf coding activity where they navigated a mini golf course using code written on their phones.

The event offered a fun, practical insight into the possibilities of a future in tech.

A massive thank you to everyone at Barclays who made this day such a success!

Step Into Finance Careers Event

Step Into Finance Careers Event

Step into FINANCE will take place at the Technology & Innovation Centre at Strathclyde University on the 4th of October from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm. We are holding the event in partnership with our colleagues at DYW LED and DYW Glasgow and as a result, will be reaching out to over 120 High Schools from West Central Scotland.

The aim is to provide secondary school pupils with a wider understanding of the Financial Sector and Professional Service Industries and the potential career opportunities in those fields, whilst hopefully inspiring them to select the relevant subjects and pathways at school that can lead to the sector. This event is available to pupils from S3-S6 year groups. We will be happy to support single booked tickets for senior phase pupils, who can travel independently.

Are you willing to offer work placement opportunities in finance-related fields?

Are you willing to offer work placement opportunities in finance-related fields?

West College Scotland is dedicated to providing real-life experience to students, and are seeking your collaboration to make it happen. Are you willing to offer work placement opportunities in finance-related fields for a minimum duration of 21 hours and between the months of April and Mid-June?

As part of WCS commitment to preparing students for the workforce, they're looking for professionals who are open to taking on students for work placements. Your mentorship and guidance can greatly contribute to their growth and development in the finance sector.

If you're interested in offering work placements then please email info@dywwest.co.uk

Additional info on Work Placements:

  • We would be hoping for real life work experience in a financial setting for our students. If they could job shadow, or be given a particular task, that would add real value to their future CVs and job interview responses, that would be ideal
  • A placement with yourselves would help with our students understanding of class room learning in the real world
  • If you can offer placement to 1 or 2 students that would be a great support.
  • The Unit actually has a minimum of 21 hours Work Placement activity – this can be extended if that meets the availability of the student and yourselves.
  • The timings of the placement are likely to be March -June – again is this flexible although the first two weeks in May would be difficult as the students have an exam in May – 15th May for this year.
